Ten-year-old Opal Buloni moves to a new town in Florida with her preacher father and feels lonely until she adopts a stray dog she finds in a supermarket. She names the dog Winn-Dixie, and his friendly, goofy personality helps Opal make new friends with some of the town's most unusual and lonely people.
