In 1942 India, ten-year-old Anjali's life changes when her mother joins the freedom movement against British rule. Anjali learns about ahimsa (non-violent resistance) and discovers that fighting for India's independence means confronting her own prejudices about the 'untouchable' caste. As she helps her mother with secret tasks, Anjali must find courage to stand up for what's right, even when it means going against her community and risking her family's safety. This historical novel shows how one girl's small acts of bravery can make a big difference.
