In the fall of 1918, seventeen-year-old Cleo Berry dreams of escaping her strict boarding school for a life of adventure. Her plans are shattered when the deadly Spanish Flu pandemic sweeps into her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Defying her guardians, Cleo volunteers for the Red Cross, driving an ambulance and helping the sick in a city gripped by fear and death. As she witnesses both the worst and best of humanity, Cleo must find her own courage and purpose in a world turned upside down.
