China’s environment improved in 2024. A new report shows this clear progress. Officials shared the data with lawmakers on Sunday. They met in Beijing to discuss the findings.
Minister Huang Runqiu presented the report. He said air quality got better. Good air days reached 87.2 percent of the year. This is a big jump. Bad air days dropped to just 0.9 percent. Fewer people breathed polluted air.
Water quality also improved. Rivers and lakes became cleaner. This helps ecosystems and drinking water. Groundwater and ocean water stayed stable. They did not get worse. This stability is a good sign.
Soil health got better too. Heavy metals like lead went down. These toxic metals stay in dirt for a long time. Less metal means safer food. Soil pollution is now under control.
All goals for 2024 were met. This was faster than planned. The plan covers 2021 to 2025. 2025 is the final year. Efforts will get stronger then.
Leaders want less tiny dust in the air. This dust is called PM2.5. It harms lungs deeply. More clean days are the goal. These changes help public health. People can see greener cities.
Lawmakers reviewed the report carefully. They can suggest new rules. This ensures the work continues. China is moving away from pollution. A greener path is being built. The 2025 results will be important. A cleaner future is coming.
